National Youth Service Fund has decided to present this year’s Yuwa Barsha Moti Puraskar to Kedar Shrestha in recognition of his contribution to the development of the Nepali language, art, literature, and culture both nationally and internationally through children’s literature and theater.
The decision was taken based on the recommendation of the evaluation committee formed by the National Youth Service Fund under the chairmanship of senior litterateur Prof. Ram Kumar Pandey.
The award, established by Nepali Education Council in 1985 is funded by National Youth Service Fund. Presently, it carries a purse of 40,000 rupees and a citation. Every year the Foundation confers Yuwa Barsha Moti Puraskar on the birth anniversary of Moti Ram Bhatta to a Nepali poet of below 40 years of age and meeting the criteria set by the Foundation.
Author Shrestha is active in the field of children’s literature through story writing, children’s drama, and film writing and direction. He is also known as a committed young dramatist in the contemporary art-literature sphere.
Among his five published children’s books, Guliyo Syau and Ice Cream Sapana are well-known in the Nepali children’s literature domain. He has also published translated children’s plays of Leo Tolstoy. Additionally, some of his plays and poetry collections are in the process of publication.
