Veteran Litterateur and Journalist Vijaya Chalise Passes Away

Veteran litterateur and journalist Vijaya Chalise has passed away at the age of 74. He had been battling cancer for some time and was undergoing treatment at Bhaktapur Cancer Hospital.

Chalise, who had recently returned home for rest, experienced sudden chest pain early this morning and was rushed to Nepal Medical College, Attarkhel. He breathed his last at 10:15 AM at the hospital.

A resident of Gokarneshwar, Chalise’s final rites are being performed today at the Gokarneshwar cremation site.

Chalise was the former Executive Chairman of the Gorkhapatra Corporation and had also served as the Editor of the Gairakhapatra Daily. He also held editorial roles in renowned literary magazines Madhupurak and Yuvamanch.

A prominent figure in Nepali literature, journalism, and social work, Chalise authored dozens of books spanning journalism, fiction, and children’s literature. His most recent novel, Yugasandhi, was published just a few months ago.

He was the son of acclaimed writer Ramesh Bikal. During Bikal’s lifetime, Chalise served as the General Secretary of the Ramesh Bikal Foundation, established under the chairmanship of Rachana Ghimire.
