Renowned Nepali literary figure Usha Sherchan’s latest muktak collection Trasadika Himnadi ha been officially launched in Pokhara.
The book launch was organized by Pokhareli Yuwa Sanskritik Parivar, in the presence of her long-time literary companions Sarubhakta and Tirtha Shrestha.
Usha Sherchan began her literary career with Pokhareli Yuwa Sanskritik Parivar, which was established in 1977.
The collection comprises 459 muktaks. Her earlier muktak collection was published in 1999.
According to literary critic Dr. Murari Parajuli, Usha Sherchan is the first woman poet in Nepal to publish a muktak collection. He praised her for capturing poignant dimensions of life in her works. Dr. Parajuli highlighted the thematic richness of her writing, which includes social hardships, political satire, emotional refinement in romantic expression, contemporary complexities, the horrors of war, decline of human values, and rebellion against the exploitation of women.
During the ceremony, Sherchan announced that Trasadika Himnadi would mark the conclusion of her journey in muktak writing, although she will continue writing in other literary forms. Her published works include Najanmeka Aasthaharu (Poems), Aksharharu Ka Shivirbata (Muktak), Sarbakaalin Peeda ra Jagritiko Shankhghosh (Poetry), Teshro Rang (Short Stories), Beglai Ma and Aandhi (Novels).
At the event, authors Sarubhakta and Tirtha Shrestha reflected on the early days of Pokhareli Yuwa Sanskritik Parivar and Sherchan’s literary evolution. Novelist Saraswati Pratiksha and other writers also shared their thoughts. Some of Sherchan’s muktaks were recited also by artists during the program.
