Travel Writer Salon Karthak to Receive ‘Pratik Dhakal Niyatra Saurabh Barsa-2082’

The ‘Pratik Dhakal Niyatra Saurabh Barsa’ for this year will be awarded to Kalimpong-based travel writer Salon Karthak in recognition of his long-standing contributions to travel literature. The announcement was made by the Parvateya Sahitya Samaj through a press release signed by Mahesh Paudyal and Bhawani Khatiwada from the award selection committee.

Karthak is know for his contribution to travel literature. Some of his notable books include Samundrawari Samundrapari (1976), Bidesh Tera Tarangidai Jada (1996), Padyatra Gauko Fanko Bideshko (2000), Bidesh Eauta Pallo Gaun (2013), and Golardha Ghumaika Rangharu (2017). His literary excellence has been recognized with prestigious honors, including the Sahitya Akademi Award in India.

The award was established in 2075 BS by the Jayanta-Pavitra Dhakal Memorial Trust on the occasion of Sri Panchami. The first recipient was Dr. Tara Nath Sharma (2076), followed by Satyamohan Joshi (2077), Devi Chandra Shrestha (2078), Bhuwan Hari Sigdel (2079), Geeta Khatri (2080), and Ghanashyam Rajkarnikar (2081).

Continuing its annual tradition, the award will be presented on Jestha 13 in a special ceremony organized by the Parvateya Sahitya Samaj in Kathmandu. The honor includes a cash prize of NPR 51,000 along with a certificate of recognition.
