Sikkim, June 10, 2024:– In a notable event at Sikkim University, “Come with the Rain,” a narrative poetry book by history student Suraksha Tamang, was officially launched. The event, held at Cauvery Hall, coincided with the Chief Minister’s oath-taking ceremony, adding to its significance.
Renowned progressive writer Vijay Kumar Subba, speaking as the Guest of Honour, described the event as a bold departure from societal norms of silence and agitation during critique. He emphasized the importance of such literary contributions from the youth.
Professor V. Krishna Ananth, Dean of Social Sciences and a senior faculty member in the history department, chaired the event. Veteran journalist and author Jiwan Rai, along with Subba, highlighted the challenges faced by authors in fostering a reading culture and the lack of critical engagement in the literary world.
The event featured a panel discussion moderated by Francis, where Tamang addressed questions about the crises depicted in her poetry and her strategies for handling potential backlash. The program also included an open mic session with performances by students and faculty members.
Organized by the History Department of Sikkim University in collaboration with BukAnt Publications, the event underscored the importance of supporting young literary talent in Sikkim.
