Students have started a peaceful protest at Central Library of Tribhuvan University demanding the library to remain open for 24 hours throughout the week. The protest, led by Free Student Union of Tribhuvan University, has asked T.U. Library Development Committee and other concerned bodies to extend the present library hours to 24 hours opening.
Currently, the Central Library at Kirtipur opens from 10 am-5pm in summer and 10 am-4pm in winter. Along with the library timing, FSU has also demanded the university to equip central library with various infrastructures.
Earlier FSU had submitted a memorandum letter to the library chief on 4th of Jestha stating the demands regarding the library timing and other facilities. But FSU along with the students had to stage the protest after their demands were not addressed.
Interestingly, the peaceful protest has also appeared to be educative as the protest features an hour of lecture by different scholars on various academic discourses. The lecture is held every evening from 7-8pm within the library premises.
