Renowned storywriter Yuwa Baral ‘Ananta,’ who has been consistently contributing to the Indian Nepali literary scene for a long time, has been awarded the prestigious Indian Sahitya Akademi Award for his short story collection Chhichimira. The announcement was made by the Sahitya Akademi on December 18.
This award is presented annually to works written in 21 Indian languages. In the Nepali language, the first recipient of this honor was Indra Bahadur Rai for his work Nepali Upanyaska Adharharu in 1977.
Baral’s stories are known for their profound exploration of events, a quality that has resonated with readers. He excels in portraying the nuances of Nepali society with exceptional beauty and simplicity. In recognition of his contributions to literature, Baral has previously been honored with the Lalman Sanchrani Award and the Tulsi Kashyap Memorial Award.
He has published four works to date: the poetry collection Ghaat Pratighaatka Ainthanharu, the short story collections Jiwani and Chhichimira, and the micro-story collection Gojika.
