The shortlist for ‘Sahityapost Uttam Kavya Puraskar 2080’ has been announced. The award is presented by Sahityapost, an exclusively literary e-magazine, to the debut authors who have entered Nepali literature through poetry. The list includes five authors who have initiated their literary journey with their debut poetry collections.
The five shortlisted works for the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Kavya Puraskar 2080’ include Devabrat’s Ashwatthama Ko Nidhar bata Bagmati Bagchha, Mithoch’s Agoko Pidar, Gagan Yokpangden’s Kewafung Ko Geet, Sushila Khadka ‘Hasina’s Pahiro Vitrako Gham, and Prakash Ramghali’s Saanjhko Sangat.
Before releasing the shortlist, a longlist of 11 works was selected from the 28 poetry collections submitted to Sahityapost by debut authors published in the year 2080. The shortlist of five poetry collections was chosen from these 11 works.
The longlisted 11 poetry collections were Sushma Acharya ‘Anshu’s Akshar Ko Ayatan, Devbrat’s Ashwatthama Ko Nidhardbat Bagmati Bagchha, Mithoch’s Agoko Pidar, Baburam Bhusal’s Abhyas Kavyayatra, Gagan Yokpangden’s Kewafung Ko Geet, Amar Akash’s Tungna, Sushila Khadka Hasina’s Pahiro Bhitrako Gham, Januka Guragai’s ghazal collection Pariveshko Suseli, Suresh Rai’s Samjhanko Photocopy, Bijay Luitel’s Samayka Khukula Chappal, and Prakash Ramghali’s Saanjhko Sangat.
One outstanding work from the five shortlisted debut poetry collections will be awarded a cash prize of 50,000 rupees along with a certificate of honor.
Ashwini Koirala, the coordinator of the evaluation committee and the editor-in-chief of Sahityapost.com, said that the works included in the shortlist indicate a bright future of Nepali poetry. He stated, “The five books selected from the long list of 11 poetry books have made a strong presence in Nepali poetry. The poetry collections showcase the emerging poets’ creativity, deep thinking, unique perspectives, and dedication.”
Following the shortlist for the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Kavya Puraskar’, Sahityapost will announce the shortlists for the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Akhyan (Fiction) and Gairakhyan (Non-Fiction) Puraskar’ on May 15 (Wednesday) and May 17 (Friday), respectively.
