Shankar Lamichhane Foundation is set to celebrate the 98th birth anniversary of renowned essayist Shankar Lamichhane on Chaitra 5, 2081 (March 18, 2025). To mark the occasion, the foundation has announced the presentation of two prestigious essay awards.
Journalist and writer Vijay Chalise will be honored with the Shankar Lamichhane Essay Award, which carries a cash prize of NPR 50,000. Chalise has authored several works, including Doteli Lok Sanskriti (Folk Literature), Aprilko Belayat (Travelogue), Manka Tulikama Smritika Bimbaharu (Travelogue), Oh!!! Neparu (Travelogue), Marubhumiko Phool (Essay Collection), Sarpadanshit Mero Bartaman (Memoir), Parishilan (Essay Collection), and Jeevanka Vakrerekha (Autobiographical Memoir).
Similarly, essayist Pawan Alok will receive the Shankar Lamichhane Youth Essay Award, which carries a cash prize of NPR 25,000. Alok has published works such as Europko Jhajhalko (Travelogue), Arun Express (Travel Novel), and Kehi Samjhana: Kehi Sirjana (Essay Collection).
previously, Shankar Lamichhane Essay Award has been conferred upon essayists such as Krishna Chandra Singh Pradhan, Prof. Dr. Durga Prasad Bhandari, Dr. Taranath Sharma, Shyam Prasad Sharma, Bal Krishna Pokharel, Ghanshyam Rajkarnikar, Ganesh Rasik, and Prof. Dr. Madhav Prasad Pokharel. Likewise, the Shankar Lamichhane Youth Essay Award has been presented to Shree Om Shrestha, Yuvraj Naya Ghare, Jhamak Kumari Ghimire, Bhishma Upreti, Dr. Damodar Pudasaini Kishor, Momila Joshi, Prateek Dhakal, and Gyanendra Vibhash.
