Translation Seminar Held at Nepal Academy

The Department of Literature (Translation) of Nepal Academy, in collaboration with the Society of Translators Nepal, organized a ‘Translation Seminar’ in the capital on Thursday.

Vice-Chancellor of the Nepal Academy, Bimal Krishna Shrestha ‘Bimal Nibha’, inaugurated the program by reading the banner of the seminar. Speaking about the knowledge and communication achieved through translation he said, “Translation work should also be done in native language speakers. This plays an important role in understanding and self-realization of folk language, literature, statement, history, culture and basic theory.” He also said that some acclaimed books have been translated from the Nepal Academy and such works are being published.

Member of Nepal Academy, Hansawati Kurmi, who is also the head of the Literature (Translation) Department, chaired the seminar. She said that simply knowing a language doesn’t help in translation.  “Translation is a technical area. Nepal Academy shall gradually address the challenges that arise from translation. There will be discussions and discussions on this issue.” she added.

Secretary of the Society of Translators Nepal, Dr. Rishiram Adhikari shed light on the importance of the seminar and said that the work of translation is connected to the advancing science and technology.

At the programme, President of the Society of Translators Nepal Dr. Balram Adhikari delivered a keynote speech, presenting a paper entitled “Language of Translation: Theoretical Debate and Practice.”

Participants in the program, including Ram Bahadur Pahadi, Ajitman Tamang, Dr. Som Dhimal, Thakur Amgain, Vedana Upadhyay, Krishna Adhikari and Umesh Basti, expressed their suggestions and interest in the program.
