Sanyog Basyal from Kaski has secured the first position in the open poetry competition held as part of the National Youth Poetry Festival 2081.
Basyal’s poem titled Sabadhan earned him the top spot during the competition held in Hetauda on Saturday. Organized by the Bagmati Province Youth Council in collaboration with Sahitya Sangam Makwanpur, Basyal received a cash prize of NPR 40,000 for his achievement.
Similarly, Sudarshan Paudel from Kaski secured second place with his poem Ghar Nafarkiyeko Chhorako Samjhanama, winning NPR 30,000. Third place went to Sumi Pokharel from Udayapur for her poem Samayadarshak Yantrako Parda Niyalda, earning her NPR 20,000. Poet Mahesh Kathayat from Bajhang received the consolation prize of NPR 10,000 for his poem Desh.
The open poetry competition received a total of 223 entries from across the country. From these, a panel of judges shortlisted the top 20 poems, and the poets were invited to present their works during the festival.
