Recently, the 372nd edition of the Samata Kavya Sandhya poetry series in Pokhara spotlighted twelve emerging poets amid an audience filled with prominent literary figures.
Among those who presented their signature works were Abyagra Asmit, Manisha Paudel, Ashmita Paudel, Roshan Timilsina, Umanga Kuwar, and Bikram Tharu. The event also featured poems by Taranath Parajuli, Sanyog Basyal, Deependra Arun, Sajina Paudel, Nikesh Giri, and Shraddha Acharya.
Bikram Tharu captivated the audience with his unique style, while Nikesh Giri impressed with his sharp, rhythmic articulation. Taranath Parajuli’s poem, centered on the harrowing story of a cruelly raped girl, was also in rhyme, leaving a strong impact. Umanga Kunwar’s performance offered a taste of slam poetry, adding diversity to the evening’s presentations.
The poets received praise from esteemed figures in Nepali literature. Noted novelist Saurbhakta congratulated the young poets for their spontaneous expressions, and Ramesh Shrestha, known as the “poet of symbols,” was particularly impressed by Bikram Tharu’s work, gifting him one of his poetry books.
Saraswati Pratikshya, a celebrated novelist and poet, appreciated the unique styles exhibited by the poets, emphasizing the importance of critical appreciation to help them unlock their full potential.
Upendra Paudel, chairman of the Pokhreli Sanskritik Paribar, expressed optimism about the future of Nepali literature, seeing great promise in the vibrant expressions of these budding poets.
The event was also attended by other literary enthusiasts, including Ishwar Mani Adhikary, Deepak Sameep, Rita Adhikary Ritu, Pranjal, Ishu Shah, Hasina Basnet, Sanjiv Paudel, and Saraswati Shrestha Saru, who all lauded the poets for their performances.
Samata Kavya Sandhya, organized monthly by the Pokhreli Yuba Sanskritik Paribar, continues to be a vital platform for showcasing emerging literary talent in Nepal.
