‘Sahityapost Uttam Puraskar-2080’ Conferred Upon Devavrat, Khadka and Paudyal

Sahityapost has presented its ‘Sahityapost Uttam Puraskar-2080’ to the debut authors across different genres. The awards were presented during an award ceremony held today (Ashar 15), coinciding with National Paddy Day, at the Apex Business Hotel, Airport.

This year’s ‘Sahityapost Uttam Kavya Puraskar’ was conferred upon Devavrat for his poetry collection ‘Ashwatthama Ko Nidhar Bata Bagmati Bagchha’. Similarly, Sagar Khadka was declared the winner of the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Akhyan Puraskar-2080’ for his novel ‘Raipali Bhanjyang’.

Additionally, the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Non-Fiction Award 2080’ was awarded to Umakant Paudyal for his research work ‘Buddhakalin Samaj’.

Each award winning author and poet received a cash prize of 50,000 rupees along with a certificate.

During the award ceremony, the poetry award was announced by Mahesh Paudyal, editor of the English edition of Sahityapost, while the fiction award was announced by Krishna Dhungel, editor of the Nepali edition of Sahityapost. Likewise, the non-fiction award was announced by journalist and writer Kedar Vashistha.

The winners were jointly presented with cash prizes and certificates by Ashwini Koirala, editor-in-chief of Sahityapost, and Uttam Bhaukaji, the sponsor of the ‘Sahityapost Uttam Kavya Puraskar’.

Sahityapost annually awards the best debut works of new writers in poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. Previously, the top three books in each category were declared as ‘Navratna 2080’, and the best works from among these were awarded.

Those shortlisted for the final awards were also honored with certificates at the program.

The program, chaired by linguistic expert Prof. Dr. Sanatkumar Vasti, was conducted by Sahityapost’s fiction editor, Tain Tain Dhital.

At the event, Dr. Devi Nepal also announced the initiation of a new column titled ‘Nitanta Naya’ to be published by Sahityapost. This column will feature weekly reviews of debut authors’ first books.
