Sahityapost has announced an invitation to the debut authors to submit their first Nepali literary works published within the year 2080 for the various awards. Authors can submit their works in three categories: poetry, fiction, and non-fiction. For each category, the Post will provide a cash prize of 50,000 rupees for the best book published within 2080.
The awards for different categories for this year are the ‘Sahityapost Best Poetry Award’, ‘Sahityapost Best Fiction Award’ and ‘Sahityapost Best Non-Fiction Award’.
In order to participate in the award competition, authors and publishers are asked to submit their debut works published within 2080 by 5th of Baishakh, 2081 at the Sahityapost office based in Kausaltar, Bahktapur for evaluation. Any books received after the deadline will not be taken into account for the awards, as notified by Sahityapost Management Department. There is no registration fee for the awards, but the authors or publishers are asked to submit 3 copies of their published work along with the information proving the book to be the author’s debut and original work.
“A lot of awards and honors are available for established writers and poets, but in the absence of institutions and media to honor new authors and their creations, Sahityapost has initiated this campaign,” says Ashwini Koirala, the Chief Editor of Sahityapost, “Last year, there were delays in the announcement of the awards due to delays in the book compilation process. Therefore, I urge authors, poets, and publishers to support our campaign by providing timely access to the books eligible for awards.”
Conferred annually since 2077 BS, the first annual celebration of Sahityapost honoured writer Kedar Vasistha with a cash prize of 50,000 along with a citation in copper plate. In the second year, two debut authors, Bhawani Khatiwada and Shanti Priyavandana, were honored with a cash prize of 50,000 each.
Starting from the last year, Sahityapost decided to honour debut writers in three dinstinct categories, being poetry, fiction and non-fiction. last year, Pradeep Rodan for his poetry collection “Mafalar,” Haribol Kafle for his novel “Yashodhara,” and Dr. Avanibhushan Upadhaya for his memoir “Mutu Sanga Saha Yatra” were respectively honored with the “LiteraryPost Best Poetry Award,” “Sahityapost Best Fiction Award,” and “Sahityapost Best Non-fiction Award.”
