Renowned singer and musician Bhakta Raj Acharya ‘Bhajan Siromani’ has passed away at 82. According to musician Chetan Sapkota, Acharya passed away at Lalitpur-based MediCity Hospital on Monday afternoon.
Sapkota informed that Acharya, who was also famous for his devotional songs, had been living by consuming only milk for the last 30 years. According to musician Hari Lamsal, Acharya suddenly experienced a drop in oxygen levels around 4:30 PM on Monday, and after that, when his son Swaruparaj and Lamsal were taking him to MediCity Hospital, he passed away on the way. He had suffered from a head injury during Dashain.
Acharya’s mortal remains will be kept for final the condolences at 9:00 AM on Tuesday at the premises of Nepal Academy of Music and Drama. Preparations are underway to bid farewell to him with national honors.
Born in 1999 in Dhankuta, Acharya held a special place in Nepali music. He was a contemporary of the singing maestro Narayan Gopal. Acharya’s songs like Mutu Jalirahexa, Jati Chot Dinchau, Jaha Chha Budhaka Aankha, Hajar Sapana Ko, Maya Meri Sajh Bihaan, Hajar Aankha Herne among others, are popular. He has also sung dozens of hymns. Throughout his lifetime, Acharya provided vocals and music for about 400 songs.
Condolences have poured in from musicians, politicians, and the general public in response to Acharya’s death.
