Poet Ram Adhikari’s Debut Collection ‘Sapana Ra Chhayaharu’ Launched

Poet Ram Adhikari’s debut book titled Sapana Ra Chhayaharu, a collections of poems, has been officially launched.  Published by Shabda Media Pvt. Ltd., the book was released among esteemed literary figures at the Sahityapost office on Wednesday.

The book was jointly inaugurated by chief guest Prof. Dr. Sushma Acharya, program coordinator Prof. Dr. Santakumar Vasti, poet Ram Adhikari, and Ashwini Koirala, editor-in-chief of Sahityapost.

Speaking as the chief guest, Sushma Acharya fondly recalled her days with poet Adhikari at Tribhuvan University, where he was her student. She remarked, “Ram is not just my student; he is a devoted disciple. Even after so many years since his studies, we share a mother-son bond beyond the teacher-student relationship. It’s rare for every teacher to have such gifted pupils.”

As an author of over a dozen books, Acharya noted Adhikari’s poetry resonates with patriotism, love for language, and a humble persona. She advised him to continue creating such works and to keep his love for Nepal alive even while residing in the U.S.

For the past decade, Adhikari has been residing in Virginia, U.S. Before his move, he regularly contributed poems and contemporary articles to various publications. After a decade-long hiatus, his writing has now revived.

Journalist and social worker Narayan Giri, who welcomed the distinguished literary guests at the event, shared his gratitude for being part of the occasion, reminiscing about his student days with Adhikari.

Devendra Paudel, a Nepali lecturer at St. Xavier’s College, reviewed the book. According to Paudel, the collection presents profound themes in simple language that deeply captures Nepal’s political, social, and cultural environment. He praised the first poem, ‘Khushi’ (Happiness), for its portrayal of human nature. Paudel also noted that Adhikari, though living in the U.S., expresses a nostalgia for Nepal. While traces of America can be seen in the collection, Nepal remains its core theme, suggesting the poet’s strong potential.

Poet Shankar Dhakal recited ‘Jaha Chorharu Desh Chalauchhan’ (Where Thieves Rule the Country) from the collection.

The event was coordinated and conducted by Prof. Dr. Santakumar Vasti, who presented and celebrated the poet’s emotions, concluding the program within an hour.

In his concluding remarks as the event chair, chief editor of Sahityapost Ashwini Koirala expressed optimism about Ram Adhikari’s future as a poet. “The goal of Sahityapost is to provide a platform for new poets, publish their books, and honor them to uplift the Nepali language and literature. Poet Adhikari has offered us this opportunity, and we extend heartfelt thanks on behalf of the Sahityapost team.”
