Poet Durgalal Shrestha Named for ‘Mother Language National Service Prize’

Kathmandu, February 21

The National Foundation for Development of Indigenous Nationalities has announced to provide this year’s ‘Mother Language National Service Prize’ to poet Durgalal Shrestha.

Shrestha was named for the prize for his outstanding contributions to the promotion and development of Nepali literature through the mother language.

Foundation’s Research Officer Sarina Gurung said that the prize carries a purse of Rs 100,000 in cash.

As a songwriter, Shrestha’s song ‘Phoolko Aankhama Phoolai Sansara’ is famous in the Nepali music genre. Shrestha has also penned several literary creations in the Newari language.

The prize will be given away to Shrestha today on the occasion of International Mother Language Day (February 21).

In previous years, the prize was conferred on litterateur Til Bikram Nembang and senior culture expert Satya Mohan Joshi.(RSS)
