Poem: RETIREMENT

Abhimanyu Majhi

A long innings has been completed
Second one is just beginning
Retirement has offered you
A rest that’s long overdue

Time to put down pens and files
Risk management guidelines
Throw away the Acts and Rules
No more calls and due deadlines

To redesign life into a new draft
Laptop, note books needed no more
Become happier than you ever been
Enjoy life as never had time before

Retiring from something you loved
To something you look forward to
Life full of experiences will guide
How, where and what you want to do

You cannot retire from being good
What you said people may forget
But never how you made them feel
When we all felt happy and great

Life will flow in slower pace
But all will soon fall in place
Left behind is the name-list engrave
But vacuum in all our hearts enclave

To lose a boss as good as you
Mixed feelings of joy and woe
Office is going to be a poorer place
Hard to fill up that vacant space

Destiny brought us all together
But you remained till the end
Creating vacuum when you retire
As I bid sad farewell at this bend

Promoted to the best stage of life
Time to browse mobile all day
At home  by the windowpane
Reminiscing the last autumn rain

Better moments are awaiting ahead
To enjoy and be happy each day
Dreams that were kept at bay
Are just going to unfold and stay

I remember my first interaction
How you helped me settle down
Guidance, instructions urgent call
Told not to be overwhelmed by it all

As someone has rightly said
Retirement is switching bosses
From the  one who hired you
To the one who married you
