Poem: Pastel Pinks and Blues

Prisha Shashi Lekhak

Piercing through
The haze of tinted clouds
Her red mane,
A stark contrast
To the
Pastel pinks and blues

Defiance courses
Deep in her
Her tattered cloak
Sweeps the false grandeur

Her deepened eyes
That sparks with each
Familiar step she takes
In this alien world
She made hers
Along the way

The blaze of her amulet,
Illuminating the paradox she is–
With her careful indifference
And maniacal serenity

How could I ever not?

Ever not regret letting go
Of the moment that was
Of her calloused, capable hands
Hefting their way up through my own

And the starkness of her face;
The first thing to meet my eyes
When I finally woke

Her temper soothing mine
An unspoken trust we bestowed
To AMULET by Kazu Kibuishi,
Who taught me first to
dream.
