Poem: Children are Always Innocent

Sameen Shakya

The children are always innocent.
They didn’t ask to be born.
Nor be coddled or left alone.
But be guided with warm hands
to gardens bearing sweet fruit
and trees that they can climb.
Soft beds wherein to sleep
and warm laughter in bellies.

The children are always innocent.
When one cries the world darkens.
When one dies so does a piece
of the anima that makes up
the fabric of our reality.

The children are always innocent.
Their faces should not be wet with tears
instead be wet from spittles born
from laughter they cannot control.
They didn’t ask to be born.
They shouldn’t die too soon.
Just love them. It’s that easy.
Stop killing them. That’s all.
