Poem: Allegory of the Cave

Sameen Shakya

We danced in the moonlight in our rooms
then thought why should we leave this place
if life itself has come to us?

These four walls have been our home.
Out there isn’t there anymore.
And what exists is in our phones.
There’s really no need to explore.
All stories are a lie.

Why should we ever leave our room?

Because they say that life’s elsewhere.
They say a lot. We plug our ears.
And look at the full moon whose pull
is light, and tickles. So we dance.
