Oscar-winning Screenwriter of Chinatown Dies at 89

Robert Towne, the Oscar-winning screenplay writer of  Chinatown has died at the age of 89. Towne, the screenwriter also nominated for his films Shampoo and The Last Detail.  According to Towne’s publicist, he died on Monday among family members at his Los Angeles home. While the publicist did not disclose the cause of Towne’s death. In 1997, he received a lifetime achievement award from the Writers Guild of America.
