BukAnt hosts Samjhauni Saanjh in memory of Narbahadur Dahal
“Narbahadur Dahal is a personality who has become the history of Nepali literature. He used to say that I will never do a job. He was the epitome of self-respect. It is difficult to account for how much he struggled in life. It is difficult to say how much his literary contribution was evaluated and how much he got,” Prof. Dr. Mohan P. Dahal was saying in an event in Salbari that remembered legendary Nepali litterateur Narbahadur Dahal who passed away on September 8, 2023.
At the beginning of the commemorative evening titled ‘Samjhauni Saanjh’, organised by BukAnt publication house, Salbari, one minute silence was observed after lighting the candle in memory of Narbahadur Dahal. Then young storyteller-critic Laxman Dahal presented Dahal’s biography. He also introduced Narbahadur Dahal’s political activities by detailing his extensive literary journey from his childhood to his death.
Meghnath Chhetri, Professor of Nepali Department of Sonada Degree College, Sonada and Literary Secretary of Sukuna Sahityik Sanskritik Sansthan presented the research paper prepared on Dahal. Narbahadur Dahal, who penned continuously in various genres such as poetry, story, novel, essay, biography, criticism, presented a panoramic assessment on the literary works of Dahal. Dahal’s all-round literary personality was made clear in the paper, which was presented for about an hour. At the end of the program, his work was appreciated from the audience gallery.
Dr. Ghanshyam Nepal, Gyanendra Khatiwada gave their in depth opinion on the author Dahal, while Mohan Thakuri recited some poems of Dahal.
The program was presided over by Senior Professor of Nepali Department of North Bengal University Dr. Mohan P. Dahal. Senior professor of Nepali Department of North Bengal University Dr. Ghanshyam Nepal was present as the guest of honour. Veteran poet Mohan Thakuri was the special guest, distinguished poet Gyanendra Khatiwada was the chief guest, civil servant and translator Denuka Rai was the chief guest in the program, while senior poet-storyteller Bhabilal Lamichhane, professor of Uttarbang University Dr. Sanjay Bantwa, President of Salbari Seva Samaj and Storyteller Rajen Moktan, President of Ushma Prakashan Urmila Ghising, owner of Cafe The Twins Lekha Rai, Hardworking Member of Shabda Samaya Hemant Kafle, Secretary of Sukuna Sahityik Sanskritik Sansthan JB Chhetri, Writer Devika Subba Khawas, Social Worker Suren Pradhan, Social personalities like Monica Pradhan, Jyotika Chhetri, Ranjana Giri, Purnima Thami were in special presence. Suraj Gurung, director of BukAnt, conducted the program. Raja Puniani, director of BukAnt, said in his thanksgiving speech that the commemorative evening will be memorable for the days to come.
