Mukundraj Sharma’s Essay Collection ‘Dhobighat Melody’ Released

Essayist and lyricist Mukundraj Sharma has released his essay collection titled Dhobighat Melody. The book was launched at an event attended by Lalitpur Metropolitan City Mayor Chiribabu Maharjan, Professor Dr. Dayaram Shrestha, poet Dr. Vishnuvibhu Ghimire, playwright Ashesh Mall, and essayist Shree Om Shrestha ‘Rodan,’ among others.

Chief guest Maharjan shared his memories of growing up near Dhobi Ghat, recalling how he drank the water from its stony springs. He expressed his enjoyment of reading the essays and also discussed the themes that resonated with him.

Playwright Ashesh Mall noted that reading Sharma’s book felt like viewing a painting, listening to music, and even  reading an epic. He applauded Sharma’s skill of expressing emotions through words.

Similarly, songwriter and poet SP Koirala suggested Sharma to continue writing songs alongside prose.

Poet Dr. Vishnuvibhu Ghimire discussed various aspects of Sharma’s writing, while essayist Shree Om Shrestha highlighted the originality in Sharma’s essays, remarking that they speak to common themes in a relatable manner.

Mukundraj Sharma recited excerpts from his essays, sharing insights into his creative process. Critical comments on the work were provided by essayist Kumari Lama and Professor Dr. Dayaram Shrestha.

The event, chaired by former minister Umesh Shrestha, also featured a welcoming speech by Sharma’s brother, artist Harihar Sharma. Singer Puspa Nepali performed a song written by Sharma, and the event was hosted by journalist and poet Thakur Belbase.

The collection was published by Kamana News Publications.
