Mohan Mainali, Dr. Yadav Receive Madan Puraskar and Jagadamba Shree Awards

Mohan Mainali’s Mukaam Ranmaidan has been awarded the Madan Puraskar for 2080 BS, while Prof. Dr. Yogendra Prasad Yadav has been honored with the Jagadamba Shree Award.

The Madan Puraskar Guthi presented both the prestigious awards on Thursday at a special ceremony held in Kathmandu.

The Guthi stated that Mukaam Ranmaidan was awarded the Madan Puraskar for its significant contribution in popularizing historical references and materials through meticulous research, and for its engaging and impactful language. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Yadav was awarded the Jagadamba Shree for his substantial academic contributions through his continuous dedication to the identification, preservation, and study of Nepal’s languages.

In his acceptance speech, Prof. Dr. Yadav emphasized the importance of incorporating endangered languages into education to preserve them.

Author Mainali, meanwhile, mentioned that his work recounts stories of the Nepal-Anglo War that he heard from retired soldiers in the villages.

The Madan Puraskar was established in 2012 BS, with its first award in 2013 BS going to Satyamohan Joshi’s Hamro Lok Sanskriti for prose, Chittaranjan Nepali’s General Bhimsen Thapa and Tatkalin Nepal for social science, and Balram Joshi’s Adhikwibhav Sthirvidyut Utpadak for science.

Likewise, the Jagadamba Shree Award was instituted in memory of Queen Jagadamba after her passing in 2045 BS, with the first honor going to Narayan Gopal.

Last year, the Jagadamba Shree was presented to Tekbir Mukhiya, and the Madan Puraskar was conferred upon  Vivek Ojha’s novel Ainthan.
