Lyricist Tika Chamling, who has been active in songwriting for nearly four decades, is currently suffering from cancer.
Two weeks ago, the 50-year-old lyricist Chamling was diagnosed with cancer in the area between the nose, ear, and throat (ENT Center) by the doctors. He is being treated at Lalitpur-based Harisiddhi Cancer Hospital.
At present, Chamling is not in a condition to see or speak clearly owing to the disease. Yet, doctors have stated that Chamling’s health can improve with regular treatment, informed Rup Kumar Rai, president of the Khotang Artists Society.
Speaking to Sahityapost, President Rai informed that the first round of chemotherapy has been completed and further treatment is ongoing. Due to financial constraints for treatment, the Khotang Artists Society has started a fundraising campaign for Chamling’s treatment. The society has also appealed to everyone to contribute to his treatment.
Born on 4th Magh, 2030 BS in Diktel, Khotang, Chamling has been living in Baneshwar, Kathmandu, for a long time. Chamling’s father, Rozbahadur Rai, is also a cancer patient and has been bedridden for a long time. His mother, Dilkumari Rai, has already passed away.
Although Chamling began his literary journey through poetry in 2043 BS, he devoted almost a decade exclusively to songwriting in the late 2040s. Resuming his poetry writing journey in the 2060s, Chamling has also been writing travel memoirs recently.
A full time devotee of literature, Chamling is also a member of the Nepal Academy. He has published seven works so far, including three music albums and four song collections. More than two dozen of his songs have been recorded and released by various singers.
