Poet and lyricist Bishwa Ballabh passed away on Wednesday at the age of 80. He had been undergoing treatment at Annapurna Neuro Hospital in Thapathali after being admitted following a stroke.
Born in Kathmandu on Ashoj 29, 2002 BS (October 15, 1945 AD), Ballabh spent a significant part of his career working at Radio Nepal. Before joining Radio Nepal, he was a teacher in Nuwakot, where he was also involved in playwriting and directing.
Bishwa Ballabh was the younger of two sons of Pandit Murulidhar Bhattarai and the younger brother of the renowned literary figure, the late Ishwar Ballabh. Many of his compositions, including popular songs like Bhagyale Khushi Khosera Lagyo (sung by Aruna Lama), Shubhakamana (sung by Tara Devi), and Dherai Din Bho Timro Jhajhalko (sung by Aman Tandukar), were recorded at Radio Nepal. He also hosted the popular program Phulbari for several years. He had 250 recorded songs to his name.
He is survived by his two daughters, while his wife passed away two years ago due to cancer.
