LB Chhetri’s memoir Amerikama Tirchalis Din, an account of his 43-day long visit of American was launched in Kathmandu on Monday. The book was launched at an event organized by Mahila Sahityakar Samuha at Anamnagar’s Dalo Restaurant. The launching ceremony was chaired by senior writer Usha Sherchan, while senior poet Laxmi Mali was the Chief Guest. The book recounts Chhetri’s experiences during his travels across several major U.S. cities, including New Jersey, Texas, San Francisco, Los Angeles, and Honolulu from June 2 to July 14, 2016.
Critics Dr. Ashok Thapa and Dr. Srijana Sharma shared their observations on the book. Speaking as a reviewer, critic Thapa said, “The memoir captures vivid recollections from this 43-day journey, offering a personal lens into American culture and landscapes.” Another critic Dr. Sharma lauded writer Chhetri for the humanistic, psychoanalytic and the affective depiction of the observed realities. The Chair and the Chief Guest lauded the author for his direct yet influential style of writing, and the frankness he has demonstrated in the entire non-fiction.
The 185-page book comprises nine chapters and features 96 photographs taken during the trip. Published by Page Turner Pvt. Ltd., the book is available in hardcover format and is priced at NPR 400. Earlier, Chhetri has published two works of poetry and three anthologies of stories.
