Laghukatha Samaj to Award Chaulagain and Asha

Among the various awards and honors presented by Laghukatha Samaj, Nepal, two short story writers have been selected for this year’s ‘Purnaprasad Brahmin Laghukatha Samman-2081’ and the ‘Dhanman Laghukatha Puraskar-2081’.

According to a press release issued by Laghukatha Samaj, Hetaunda-based short story writer R.R. Chaulagain has been selected for the ‘Purnaprasad Brahmin Laghukatha Samman’, and Bhaktapur-based short story writer Shyam Asha has been selected for the ‘Dhanman Laghukatha Puraskar’.

Chaulagain, who has been writing short stories for a long time, published his short story collection ‘Bighatanko Tayari’ in 2065 B.S. Many of his individual short stories have been published in various magazines and on Laghukatha Facebook pages.

Similarly, Shyam Asha has been writing short stories in the Nepal Bhasa for a long time. He has published seven short story collections in the Nepal Bhasa, and two of his collections have been translated into Nepali. His collection ‘Shyam Ashaka Laghukatha’ was translated by short story writer Dhruva Madhikarmi, while the other collection ‘Aghoshit Awaaz’ was translated by literary figure Rasa.

Laghukatha Samaj formed a three-member recommendation committee chaired by senior literary critic Prof. Dr. Laxman Prasad Gautam, with Shree Om Shrestha ‘Rodan’ and Tulsi Hari Koirala as members to select the duo writers for the awards.

The ‘Purnaprasad Brahmin Laghukatha Samman’ will be awarded on Bhadra 5 (August 21) at a special ceremony at Sarvanam Theatre to mark the 17th Short Story Day, while the ‘Dhanman Laghukatha Puraskar’ will be given at a ceremony in Bhaktapur on Bhadra 8 (August 24), as mentioned in the press release.

Laghukatha Samaj has announced that it will celebrate the day with various programs on Bhadra 4, 5, and 6.
