‘Kitab Jatra 2081’ Scheduled for August 2 and 3

The sixth edition of ‘Kitab Jatra’ (Book Festival) is scheduled to take place on August 2 and 3. Organized by Kitab Yatra Foundation, the two-day festival festival will be held at the Army Officers’ Club, Sundhara, Kathmandu.

“We are very excited to announce the sixth edition of Kitab Jatra,” said Foundation President and Festival Director Rishiram Adhikari. “After two years, we are once again hosting the festival in person. Despite not being able to organize the 2080 edition due to the adverse economic conditions, we are continuing the journey of Kitab Jatra with a new dimension this year.”

In addition to literature, the festival will host contemporary discussions on economic, social, and artistic topics. According to Festival Coordinator Bikas Bhattarai, the Jatra will feature participatory creative activities such as poetry evenings, book exhibitions, startup exhibitions, open-mic sessions, art exhibitions, calligraphy, and blood donation. He also mentioned that there will be special presentations in music and art based on the concept of Mystic Nepal.

The Jatra will include 15 sessions featuring intimate discussions between writers and readers. Various personalities from fields such as language, literature, cinema, society, and banking will participate, Director Rishiram Adhikari informed. Additionally, there will be a musical performance by the band ‘Sangam Shruti,’ he added.

Bikas Bhattarai, CEO of Kitab Yatra Pvt. Ltd., informed that this edition of Kitab Jatra, organized by the Foundation to integrate reading culture into everyday life, will feature a special exhibition of books from various fields. The book exhibition will be coordinated by the online book retailer Kitab Yatra.

During Kitab Jatra, the ‘Prem Sahitya Samman,’ an award with a prize of 111,111 rupees will also be announced. Established in memory of the late educationist Prem Prasad Adhikari from Sarlahi district, the honor is given annually to a literary artist who has made a significant contribution to Nepali literature and culture.

Last year, the award was given to literary figure Dhruv Chandra Gautam.

On the occasion of the Jatra, Kitab Yatra will also present the ‘Kitab Yatra Best Seller Award’ to the book that has sold the most on its platform. Last year, the award was given to ‘Satyamohan’ written by author Girish Giri.

Additionally, on the occasion of Kitab Jatra, one individual will be awarded the ‘Prem Prasad Memorial Scholarship’ for CA studies based on an open application process. The scholarship will be provided in collaboration with Prime CEO.
