‘Khairide Hasyabengya Puraskar’ Announced for School-Level Students

With the aim of promoting humor and satire writing in Nepali literature among school-level students, a new literary award titled the ‘Khairide Hasyabengya Puraskar’ has been established . The award is initiated by Rajendra Karki, author of satirical essays Khairide and will be managed by the literary platform Banga Akshar.

The award aims to promote the rich tradition of Nepali satire, nurtured by legendary writers like Bhanubhakta Acharya, Laxmi Prasad Devkota, and Bhairav Aryal. It will be awarded annually through a global competition among Nepali-speaking students up to Grade 12.

According to Banga Akshar, the competition will feature one genre each year—satirical essay, story, or poem. This year, the award will focus on satirical essays. The results will be announced and the awards presented in Mangsir or Poush (November–January), marking Banga Akshar’s first anniversary.

The award carries a cash prize of 20,000 rupees for the first place, 10,000 rupees for the second place, and 5,000 rupees each for two third-place recipients.

The official call for entries will be announced soon. Banga Akshar will also publish detailed guidelines on how students can participate in the competition.
