The Kathmandu Pragya Kunja School is showcasing fifteen plays with different theater artists over five days. The shows are a part of the upcoming theatre week “Milijuli”, artist and the school’s drama instructor Tanka Chaulagain informs. The performances features plays written by Chaulagain, and they include “Kalu ra Bagh,” “Sani ra Pari,” “Imandar Daure,” “Ujjyalotira,” “Chocolate,” “Khelne Bela Khelchau Padne Bela Padchau,” “Hira ko Bhoto,” and “Shrawankumarko Katha.” Additionally, Prakash Sindhuliya has penned “The Finish Line,” “Shishir Basanta,” “Charlie and the Chocolate Factory,” “Beauty is a Beast,” “Fulko Bhasha,” “Dukhi Rajkumari,” and “Papbuddhi Dharmabuddhi”. All these plays will be performed by nearly 400 students from grades 4 to 10.
The theatre week also features other artists like Mr. Bijay Karki, Bijay Nepal, and Bansari Pandey, alongside directors Tanka Chaulagain and Pratik. All performances will take place at Shilpi Theatre from the 31st of Baishakh to the 4th of Jestha, with Professor Dr. Sabitri Kachyapati and Tulasi Ghimire as special guests.
KPKS has established a strong presence in theatre, integrating drama into its curriculum since the last twelve years. Students have been participating in the annual theatre week, with performances staged at various theatres like Sarbanam, Mandala, Shilpi, Kunja, and the Studio theatre. Occasionally, the school sets up a “black box” for performances on campus itself. Under the guidance of theatre mentor and director Mr. Tanka Chaulagain, students have not only acted in plays but also appeared in music videos and documentaries. Theatre artist Mr. Pratik Dulal also contributes to the school’s theatre program, which is a source of pride for all.
