Nepal Srashta Samaj has decided to confer the Rekha-Pawan Srashta Samman on poet and lyricist Kaliprasad Rijal. The decision was made during a meeting of the organization’s central executive committee.
According to a press release, the honor, which includes a cash prize of NPR 1,01,111 and a certificate of recognition, is being awarded in high appreciation of Rijal’s contributions to poetry and songwriting in Nepali literature for over five decades. The honor is conferred upon literary figures who have reached the age of 60 and have made outstanding contributions to Nepali literature while maintaining a consistent literary presence.
For this year’s Rekha-Pawan Srashta Samman, a recommendation committee was formed under the coordination of literary journalist and writer Rochak Ghimire. The committee’s recommendation was approved by the central executive committee of Nepal Srashta Samaj, as stated in the press release signed by the organization’s president, Rodan.
The honor has been established through an endowment fund created by literary figure Pawan Alok and his wife Rekha Kandel, with contributions from their daughters Bimala Kandel Thapa, Rita Kandel Basnet, and Anita Kandel, as well as their son Sunil Kandel and daughter-in-law Mala Katuwal Kandel.
The honor will be formally presented at a special event in Kathmandu on Falgun 24 (March 8).
