The Progressive Writers’ Association (PWA) of Nepal has awarded the ‘PWA Talent Award -2081’ to renowned literary figure Jhamak Ghimire at her residence in Kachide, Dhankuta, on Sunday.
The PWA central committee presented Ghimire with a cash prize of Rs. 20,100, a certificate of honour, and the award in recognition of her remarkable contributions to Nepali literature and progressive writing.
The award ceremony was graced by Chief Guest Gopal Guragain, former Member of Parliament and Chairman of the Jhamak Ghimire Foundation. Other dignitaries included Chief District Officer of Dhankuta, Tuwraj Pokhrel, Deputy Mayor of Dhankuta Municipality, Bhimadevi Khanal, and PWA Vice President Namuna Sharma.
Born in Kachide, Dhankuta, in 1980, Jhamak Ghimire is a celebrated Nepali writer who overcame severe physical disabilities to leave an indelible mark on literature. Unable to use her hands and legs, stand, walk, or speak, she began writing as a child by drawing with her feet in the dust of her courtyard. Using three toes to hold a pen, she rose to literary prominence. She began her literary journey in 1996, contributing columns to national and local newspapers.
Her most acclaimed work, Jiwan Kada Ki Phool, an autobiography, earned her the prestigious Madan Puraskar in 2010, cementing her legacy in Nepali literature.
