J.N. Dahal’s acclaimed Nepali novel ‘Prahelika’ is now available in English under the title ‘Her Innocence Discovered. First released nearly a year ago, the novel has already earned the Him Tika Fiction Award, presented at a convention in Canada by the Literature Council of Bhutan. This thoughtful translation is the work of Bal Ram Adhikari, PhD, a lecturer at Tribhuvan University in Nepal, who has skillfully adapted the narrative for an English-speaking audience.
Her Innocence Discovered centers on Anushka, a young Asian woman struggling to connect with her husband Miles during the early days of their honeymoon. Facing challenges in experiencing physical intimacy, Anushka embarks on a path of self-discovery that explores her asexuality and identity. Mrs. Sharma, another prominent character, faces her own set of challenges, offering insights into the complex realms of gender discrimination and psychological struggles. Together, their stories present an intimate and profound look into identity, relationships, and the journey toward self-acceptance.
J.N. Dahal, known for his short stories, essays, and travelogues, has previously been awarded the INLS Best Diaspora Book Award in 2022 for his anthology Lekhak ki Chori (Writer’s Daughter). With ‘Her Innocence Discovered,’ Dr. Adhikari’s translation preserves the cultural and emotional depth of the original, allowing English readers to experience the novel’s intricate layers.
The book is available in eBook, paperback, and hardcover formats on major platforms, including Amazon, Booktopia, Bokus, and Barnes & Noble.
