Inspiring Verses Unveiled: Differently-Abled Poet Darshan KC Releases Debut Collection

In a remarkable celebration of resilience and creativity, Darshan KC, a differently-abled individual, has unveiled his debut book titled ‘Darshan Poem Collection’. The book was launched amid a literary event organized by Everest Gallery, held at the auditorium of Nepal Tourism Board on Friday.

Darshan KC, in spite of his physical difficulties, has proven to be a person of exceptional ability practicing his literary creations both in English and Nepali. Poet KC writes on his computer and mobile phones with his nose for his daily conversation and any literary work. The release marked a significant milestone not only for the author but also for the broader literary community, emphasizing the power of the differently- abled individuals.

Minister of Women, Children and Senior Citizens Surendra Raj Acharya had attended the event as the chief guest while actor Rajesh Hamal and poet and critic Mahesh Paudyal were among the special guests of the event. Besides different scholars, poets, politicians, artists, social activists, students and those from differently- abled communities had showed an active participation in the event.

Speaking upon the book, Mahesh Paudyal, who is also an assistant professor at Central department of English, Tribhuvan University, said the author has employed moving imageries in his poetry, referring author KC as “darling of romantic images”.

Critic Paudyal also considered the book to be beyond the work of analysis and criticism who said, “Slight imperfections is not the concern of this book, but one should see how the world is being perceived and expressed by the people like Darshan.” While appreciating the literary caliber of the author, critic Paudyal gave references of exemplary people who despite of their physical disabilities, achieved remarkable success and anticipated poet KC to likely to join those list. He also stressed on the need to understand the perspective of differently–abled people, rather than imposing our ideas upon them.

Actor Rajesh Hamal viewed the book to be an inspirational piece of work. “By reading Darshan’s poems, I am also encouraged to continue my poetry” said actor Hamal. Actor Hamal, whose appreciative comment appears in the back cover of the book, said, ” Dashan  has very minutely observed life and society in this book”

Likewise, minister Surendra Raj Acharya, the chief guest of the event, expressed his happiness for being a part of the event. “I hope the book will inspire all the each one of us to be determined in our work” he added.

Speaker Pratima Gurung, a disability expert, raised many serious issues regarding the rights and dignity of differently- abled people. She said that literature these days have become more respectful and inclusive towards the people with disabilities.” She also warned against any disrespectful use of words while addressing people with disabilities.  ” The book can be a useful material for any kind of research on disabilities” she added.

The program also felicitated different artists with the Certificate of Honour for their contributions in different fields.  A brief video on poet Darshan KC’s biography was screened in the event.  The event was coordinated by music video artist Sonam Kathaye whose role remained very significant throughout the journey of the debut book.
