Renowned historian Purushottam Shumsher J.B.Rana has passed away. He breathed his last on Thursday while undergoing treatment at Nepal Mediciti Hospital in Lalitpur. Jabara was 99 years old.
According to hospital spokesperson Anita Shrestha, he passed away at 12:15 PM on Thursday during treatment. Doctors confirmed that Jabara had been suffering from kidney-related ailments for a long time.
He was admitted to the hospital on Wednesday due to complications arising from high blood pressure. Rana authored several notable books, including Shree 3 Haru Ko Tathya Britanta (three volumes), Ranakalin Pramukh Aitihasik Darbarharu (Major Historical Palaces of the Rana Era), Samjheko Ra Sune Ka Kuraharu (Recollections and Stories Heard), Bhayeka Ra Gujrekaa Ghatanaaharu (Events Witnessed and Passed), Lukechipeka Pratibhaharoo (Hidden Talents), Mera Jivan Ka Smritiharoo (Memories of My Life), and Jung Bahadur Ra Ranakalin Darpan.
Born on Chaitra 15, 1982 BS (April 1, 1926) in Charburja Palace, Kathmandu—currently the building housing the Election Commission—JBR was the grandson of Rudra Shumsher and the son of Ishwar Shumsher. Purushottam was only eight years old when Juddha Shumsher exiled his grandfather Rudra Shumsher to Palpa He received his early education at Palpa Durbar and later pursued higher education at Banaras Hindu University.
