Historian Pragya Gyanmani Nepal passed away on Tuesday afternoon at the age of 92. Nepal was transferred to Manmohan Cardiovascular and Transplant Center from Gangalal via Civil Hospital on Friday when his condition did not improve, reported his brother, Ekmani Nepal.
Nepal had been suffering from heart disease and other ailments for a long time and was undergoing treatment at Manmohan Cardiovascular and Transplant Center.
Ten days ago, Nepal was admitted to the Maharajgunj-based Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital.
The late Gyanmani Nepal, who was also a disciple of poet and historian Nayaraj Pant, is known for his famous book ‘Nepalko Mahabharat’. Other notable books written by Nepal include ‘Nepal Nirukt’, ‘Yatra Trai’, ‘Nepal Nirupan’, and ‘Nepal-Bhot Chin Sambandhika Kehi Sanskritik Pakshya’ (Some Cultural Aspects of Nepal-Bhot China Relations).
Often regarded as a pioneer in the research and writing of Nepali history, Nepal conducted several in-depth study of ancient and medieval history. His wife had passed away a few years earlier. He is survived by two sons.
