The historic First National Dalit Knowledge and Literature Festival 2082 is set to take place from Asar 5 to 7 (Jun 19-21) at Nepal Academy, under the theme: “Let’s preserve the indigenous skills, art, knowledge, literature, and culture of the Dalit community, and pass on these invaluable national heritages to the new generation.”
The festival is being organized through the joint initiative of national-level Dalit organizations led by Dalit rights activists, including Dalit Rights and Development Center Nepal (Kathmandu), Nepal Intellectual Forum (Lalitpur), Samabesi Foundation (Kathmandu), Nepal Oppressed Development Center (Mahottari), and Nagarik Gajaran Kendra (Kathmandu). Recognizing the deep historical and cultural significance of this event, the National Dalit Commission, the government body regarded as the highest custodian of Dalit heritage, will serve as an institutional collaborator.
According to writer and Dalit scholar Saroj Dilu Bishwakarma, a member of the festival secretariat, the event will feature various stalls highlighting the ethnic identity of the Dalit community, along with a photo exhibition.
