The central committee of Nepali Congress has announced ‘B.P Literature Festival 2080’ to mark the 110th birth anniversary of Bisheshwar Prasad Koirala, the first democratically elected prime minister of Nepal. A press release issued by the Information and Communication department of Nepali Congress says Nepali Congress central committee is organizing the first B.P. Literature Festival on the 24th, 25th and 26th of Bhadra at B.P Memorial Building, Sanepa, Lalitpur.
An internal committee of thirty-seven members has been formed under the coordination of deputy general secretary Badri Prasad Pandey for the preparation of three-day grand festival, the statement claims. Nepali Writers Association, Nirantar Sanibar, Nepal Sanskriti Sangh and Fine Arts are the collaborating organizations for the festival.
The three days festival will illuminate various aspects of B.P Koirala broadly of his literary and political life. As per the schedule, key note speaker Prof. Dr. Abhi Subdi will explore B.P Koirala’s literature and philosophy on the inaugural day of the festival. Similarly, Prof. Anand Kumar will shed light on Marx, Ghandi, B.P and their quest for democracy and socialism the following day. The final day will examine B.P. Koirala’s socialism and the central speaker will be Prof. Kedar Bhakta Mathema.
Each day will feature different sessions foregrounding a particular episode of B.P.’s life and the issues he handled in his literary writings which will be proceeded by the different titles like: B.P in B.P’s Eyes, Psychoanalysis, Madhes and woman in B.P’s Fiction, Ecology in Literature, Nepali Literature in Mother Tongues, B.P.’s Lost 15 Years, B.P in International Politics and Diplomacy, Inclusiveness, Social Transformation and B.P., and many more. It has also been claimed that poetry, ghazal and musical performance will be entertained during the festival.
Exhibition of art and photos by renowned artists and photographers will be an integral part of the festival while documentary on different subjects will also be showcased, writes the notice.
The announcement reads that ‘B.P. Literature Festival’ is scheduled to run from 9 am to 7pm. Organizer Nepali Congress invites writers, litterateurs, intellectuals, researchers, politicians and social workers to be a part of the historic festival.
Every year Nepali Congress observes 24th Bhadra as the birth anniversary of B.P. Koirala by organising different programs to offer tribute to his contributions for the establishment of democracy in Nepal. He was also one of the founding leaders of Nepali congress, the oldest and largest political party at present, and is also acclaimed as Jana Neta (People’s leader). Additionally, B.P Koirala is equally appreciated for his literary works. He has produced dozens of short stories, novels and political essays many of which are widely studied in academia.
