Environmental Essay Competition Announced: Total Prizes Worth NPR 154,000

Nepal Eco Literature Foundation, in collaboration with Sahityapost, has announced an environmental essay competition with a total prize pool of 154,000 rupees. The competition aims to encourage essay writing on environmental themes, according to coordinator Bijay Hitan.

The top three essays will receive cash prizes of 50,000 rupees, 40,000 rupees, and  30,000 rupees, respectively. Additionally, the top 20 essays will be published in a collection, with each of the remaining 17 contributors receiving 2,000 rupees.

The winners will be announced on May 31, 2025 (Jestha 17, 2082) during the ’10th Environmental Literature Symposium’ in Kathmandu. Sahityapost’s Editor-in-Chief Ashwini Koirala confirmed that the essay collection will be released on the same day.

Competition Guidelines:

  • Theme: Essays must focus on environmental issues.
  • Language: Submissions must be in Nepali, demonstrating literary quality.
  • Length: 2,500 to 3,500 words.
  • Format: Typed in Unicode or Preeti font and submitted as a Word document.
  • Eligibility: Open to writers worldwide.
  • Originality: Essays must be unpublished and original.

The submission deadline is February 28, 2025 (Fagun 16, 2081). Entries must include a brief biography, contact information, and a recent photograph of the author.
