The English version of Kamal Rijal’s publicly acclaimed Nepali novel Sukarma has been released under the title ‘Deep Quest’. The book was jointly released by the author Kamal Rijal, translator Mahesh Paudyal and publisher Aswini Koirala on Wedesday at Sahityapost office, Anamnagar.
The novel has been translated into English by translator Mahesh Paudyal. Mr. Paudyal, who is also a celebrated poet and critic of the time, has dozens of translated books both into Nepali and English to his credit. “We sow imagery in fiction, but Sukarma itself is an imagery as the whole novel has extensively used imageries.” said Paudyal.
“Deep Quest was not merely a work of translation for me but also a period of devotion. And I believe I have done justice to the book by devoting myself for one complete year translating the book.” added Paudyal.
While author Kamal Rijal said that the growing number of English readers inspired him to take his novel Sukarma into English version. He also expressed his satisfaction upon his translated work.
“Few years back, I had approached Nepal Academy for the English translation of Sukarma but I could not make it possible. So I had to end up with the Hindi version. Today, that unfulfilled dream has come to reality by collaborating with translator Mahesh Paudyal and Sahityapost team.” author Rijal said.
Likewise, Editor-in-Chief of Sahityapost Aswini Koirala took the novel ‘Deep Quest’ as a success record of Sahityapost team. He claimed,“ Sahityapost believes in team work and takes the journey together. Kamal sir’s faith upon us means we have already forged the journey ahead.”
While Sukarma(Deep Quest) is Rijal’s sixteenth novel which centers around the theme of eastern civilization. Some of his earlier books include Pritha, Dharmadarshan, Dristibhram, Satyawati, Purbiya Darshan Mimasa and Purbiya Bimarsha.
The translated book has been published by Sahiyapost.
