Kathmandu, April 30 — The Yugakavi Siddhicharan Foundation has announced that the Yugakavi Siddhicharan Award–2082 will be presented to literary figure Dr. Durgabahadur Subedi Kshetri, widely known as Dr. Dubasu Kshetri. The announcement was made through an official press release issued today by Foundation Chairperson, poet Bairagi Kaila.
The award honors Dr. Kshetri’s outstanding contributions to the advancement of Nepali language and literature. The decision was based on the recommendation of a three-member selection committee chaired by Prof. Dr. Mohan Prasad Lohani, with members Prof. Dr. Abhi Subedi and poet Manjul.
Dr. Kshetri has played a pivotal role in introducing the works of Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha to international audiences. Under the Dubasu Kshetri National Development Foundation, he published the epic poem Bhimsen Thapa, which he adapted into a theatrical performance staged in the UK and other countries. The play is now being prepared for a film adaptation. Additionally, he has translated and published Siddhicharan’s poems in English and Japanese.
A distinguished scholar, Dr. Kshetri holds advanced degrees from universities in Nepal, the UK, Japan, and the USA. He currently serves as Nepal’s Ambassador to Japan and has held key diplomatic posts including Ambassador, First Secretary, and Consul General in countries such as the UK, Japan, Malta, Ireland, Bahrain, the USA, and Myanmar. Despite his administrative career, he is more widely recognized for his literary contributions.
He has authored over 38 publications spanning poetry, songs, ghazals, muktaks, and research, and has edited more than three dozen books and journals. Furthermore, he has published over a dozen translated works and contributed to the growth of Nepali literature through the establishment and leadership of more than two dozen literary and cultural institutions.
According to foundation’s patron, Mr. Ravicharan Shrestha, the Yugakavi Siddhicharan Award–2082 will be conferred on Dr. Dubasu Kshetri during a special ceremony on Jestha 9, 2082 (May 22, 2025), commemorating the 114th birth anniversary of Yugakavi Siddhicharan Shrestha.
