Dhungel’s ‘Samayeko Nakshabahira’ Launched

Author and literary journalist Krishna Dhungel’s highly anticipated book Samayeko Nakshabahira, a memoir-in-essays, was launched on Saturday. The book was unveiled during a special event held at Sarwanam Theatre, Kalikasthan, Kathmandu, with poet Nabaraj Lamsal and various other literary figures in attendance.

Following the launch, a panel discussion took place, centered on Dhungel’s newly released book. The panel featured poet Namaraj Lamsal, guest speakers Anita Panthi and Ganesh Karki, and the author himself. Raju Jallu Prasad moderated the discussion who provided an overview of the different aspects of Dhungel’s life, and noting how each essay in the collection offers a unique perspective and contributes to the overall narrative of the memoir.

In his remarks as the chief guest, poet Dr. Nabaraj Lamsal described the book as a spontaneous expression of the author’s innermost thoughts and feelings. “In a time when external influences often dominate, reading Krishna’s story felt like witnessing an outpouring of his inner consciousness and heart,” Lamsal remarked. “I highly recommend this book to anyone aspiring to begin their own writing journey.”

Story writer Anita Panthi highlighted that the book delves into human emotions and incorporates elements of child psychology, viewing it as a source of inspiration for those interested in life writing. Similarly, writer Ganesh Karki praised the book for its portrayal of middle-class family life, noting, “This collection also reflects how children of earlier generations enjoyed their connection with the Earth, and it carries a significant amount of environmental awareness.”

Author Krishna Dhungel shared that while searching for a subject to write about, he ultimately discovered that his own life provided the material he needed.

The event was presided over by writer Bhuwan Hari Sigdel, chairman of Page Turner Publication. Sigdel shared his impressions of the book and extended his best wishes to Dhungel.

Dhungel began his literary career with his debut novel Mirage. He currently serves as the executive editor at Sahityapost, a prominent online literary platform, and as a literary columnist. He has also edited numerous books, including Tirtharam Dangol’s Kathmandu, Congress and Tirtharam, the biography of Subarna Sumsher, and Dr. Balkrishna Shah’s Garba Ko Garba.

Set in and around Jhapa, a far-eastern district of Nepal, Samayeko Nakshabahira recounts the author’s childhood and other significant events that have shaped his life.

The book, published by Page Turner, contains 15 personal narrative essays.
