Devghat Mela: Where Pilgrimage Meets Spirituality

Namrata Bhandari

Happiness! The joy cannot be explained, but I just know I am blessed to witness the sparkling lights and diyas that create an ecstatic panoramic view.

Devghat holds my heart and soul as it remains awake throughout the night, with the chanting of prayers and the lighting of lamps making the experience even more profound along the riverbanks. It is hard to express every single thread of emotion, but I am grateful to have experienced the moment so vividly.

What a breathtaking view at dawn—the softness of the dew on the Kaligandaki stones, shimmering like golden sparkles. The cold chill of the water against my body and feet made me truly feel the beauty and charm of Devghat’s spirituality. Being surrounded by pilgrims and devotees was an experience beyond words and worlds.

What an incredible day—full of excitement and adventure! Devghat itself feels like morning glory. Embracing spirituality, thousands walk with their families, loved ones, and relatives to take a sacred dip in the holy waters. The confluence of the Kaligandaki and Trishuli rivers is the heart of devotion for five lakh people, carrying deep spiritual and cultural significance.

From dawn to dusk, pilgrims immerse themselves in the sacred water, strengthening their faith. Meanwhile, elderly devotees sprinkle water on themselves and listen to religious discourses from their gurus. Devghat Beni, surrounded by natural beauty and religious significance, attracts a large number of devotees seeking inner peace, yoga, and self-reflection.

Much like the Kumbh Mela, devotees from around the world—including India and Bangladesh—gather here to witness and experience this religious fair. The essence of life lies in simple things, in appreciating the beauty of nature in its purest form. A boat service from Ganidakot to Devghat Dham is a major attraction, especially for the youth and children. Even at the end of Magh, a large number of devotees continue to participate in the spiritual celebrations.

Even the smallest pebbles of the Kaligandaki carry their own history. Every aspect of this place feels alive and joyful. At dawn, the peaceful environment, the chirping of birds, and the breathtaking natural beauty along the Kaligandaki create a perfect retreat for nature lovers, art enthusiasts, and spiritual seekers. It has been a lifetime experience for me. I feel blessed to have witnessed such a sacred place, rich with stories of devotion and faith.
