Nepal Srasta Samaj has decided to award this year’s Damanta-Nari Srasta Samman to 86-year-old Lata Giri.
The honor, comprising a certificate and a cash prize of 15,000 rupees, will be bestowed upon Lata Giri. She has faced numerous challenges, having been married at the age of 11 and living as a single woman for 35 years. She is being recognized for her contributions to women’s empowerment in the fields of education, health, self-employment, and literature. Additionally, three collections of her songs have been recorded.
As per the president of the Nepal Writers Society, Mr. Shree Om Shrestha, the award ceremony will take place on the upcoming Baisakh 9.
Established by writer Pushpa Khanal in honor of her mother, this award has previously been bestowed upon Srijana Sharma, Dikra Wadi, Indra Gahtari, Pratima Pokharel, Nirmala Murari, and Yamuna Adhikari Parajuli.
