Former Prime Minister and leader of Nepal Socialist Party Dr. Baburam Bhattarai has said BP Koirala is one of his role models both in Nepali politics and literature. Speaking as a panelist in the session “BP Koirala in International Relations and Diplomacy” on the second day of BP Literature Festival, 2080, Dr. Bhattrai appraised the versatile, progressive and revolutionary personality of BP Koirala in Nepali politics and literature.
Referring to Koirala’s advocacy for democratic socialism Dr. Bhattarai said, “BP Koirala was very much influenced by Marx and Lenin’s idea of socialism whereas he did not favor Stalin for his dictatorship.” He also seemed to amalgamate Ghandi and Marx with regard to international relation, Bhattarai said.
“BP Koirala always maintained an equidistant relationship with our neighboring countries India and China. He had the courage to table talk with both Mao and Nehru regarding the national interest of Nepal. But the feudal monarch of that time could not tolerate the popularity of Mr. Koirala which led to the dissolution of his democratically formed government,” said Dr. Bhattarai.
