Writers contributing significantly to the upliftment of Nepali literature were honored in the 218th series of Jyoti Sahitya Pratishthan.
In a program chaired by Maniraj Singh and graced by chief guest Prof. Dr. Khagendra Prasad Luitel, UK-based poet Bijay Hitan was felicitated with the title ‘Eco-literature Ambassador’.
Speaking on the occasion, Prof. Dr. Luitel stressed the importance of emotional depth in poetry, asserting that creations lacking feeling cannot be considered true poetry.
More than thirty writers recited their compositions during the event. Notable participants included Dr. Biplav Dhakal, Bhishma Upreti, Dr. Padma Aryal, Aksharmarg editor Surya Lakoju, Shailendra Sakar, Ganga Bhetwal, Dr. Manmurti Bhurtel (Russia), Buddhiman Maharjan, and Bhuvan Shivakoti.
A major highlight of the event was the felicitation of seven writers with cash prizes through the Aksharmarg Sahitya Kosh. Editor Lakoju informed attendees that the books published through two funds established by Aksharmarg are distributed free of cost, and the proceeds from book sales are reinvested back into the fund.
Awardee Bijay Hitan recited his poem ‘Malai Aryaghat Lagera Najalaunu’ on the occasion. Prof. Dr. Luitel also presented tokens of love to Buddhiman Maharjan, Shriram Paudel, Karishma Kumari Singh, and Ambika Subedi.
The event was conducted by the foundation’s general secretary Usha Acharya. Concluding the program, chairperson Maniraj Singh congratulated Hitan and praised him as a genuine voice in Nepali literature. He also extended his thanks to the editors, publishers, and supporters of Aksharmarg, as well as to officials of the World Nepali Literary Federation.
