Essayist Bhisma Upreti has unveiled a new collection of essays titled ‘Jaba Hami Kura Garchhaun’ (When We Talk) in Nepali. The book was released by Poet Manjul, critics Gyanu Pandey and Bidhan Acharya, publisher Pushparaj Paudel, and Upreti himself, in the presence of numerous literary figures at Dhumbarai, Kathmandu, on Saturday.
Poet Manjul praised Upreti’s talent in both poetry and prose. “He was born to write poetry but has also ventured into prose,” Manjul said, “This is great news for readers.”
Critic Pandey noted that Upreti’s essays are rich in thought, imagination, and philosophy. “His writing is enjoyable and mindful of environmental conservation,” she remarked.
Critic Acharya highlighted how Upreti’s essays encourage readers to engage in self-reflection. “His essays possess a poetic flavor, and his poetry contains elements of essays,” Acharya observed.
Upreti emphasized the responsibility writers have towards their words. “I strive to ensure my writing is always true to my words,” he said, “I will consider myself successful if my writing resonates with readers.” Other speakers, including Pushparaj Paudel and Chhatra Karki, also shared their thoughts on the book.
Published by Shikha Books in Kathmandu, the 136-page book features 17 essays on various themes and is priced at Rs. 295. Born in Jhapa in 2024 BS, Upreti has authored 22 works across different genres. His works have been translated into English, Hindi, Persian, Japanese, Sinhalese, and Serbian.
Upreti has received numerous accolades, including the SAARC Literature Award, Gopal Prasad Rimal National Poetry Award, Yuwa Barsa Moti Award, Shankar Lamichhane Youth Essay Award, Sasidhi National Kalashree Youth Award, and Uttam Shanti Award, among others.
