Beyond Symbols: Embracing the Authenticity

Culture has always held a significant place in her life, as a Nepali, she has cherished countless traditions, each varying in mood, time, and diversity. There have been moments of complete immersion in these traditions, as well as instances where she’s let them slip by due to various reasons.

Regardless of her level of involvement, all traditions hold significant meaning for her, symbolizing respect and pride. However, one incident stands out when a relative criticized her for not adhering to certain materialistic symbols of a married woman. The sight of bangles, colorful bindis, and vermillion has always held a special place in her life, depending on her mood, but this seemingly wise relative’s harsh words left a bitter feeling.

While she understands the cultural significance behind wearing bangles for ovarian health, bindis for preserving energies, and vermillion for marital symbolism according to Vedic culture, she couldn’t grasp the connection between these traditions and a person’s life and fortune. It felt unjust to be judged based on these superficial symbols.

Reflecting on her daily routine, she often sacrifices personal time and priorities to fulfill the needs and expectations of her family. From managing household chores to ensuring everyone’s well-being, her responsibilities as a woman extend far beyond these symbolic gestures. Additionally, working in the office adds another layer of responsibility and commitment.

In the depths of her soul, she finds solace in the truth that it is the depth of her love and unwavering commitment that truly matters. Whether adorned with bangles, bindis, and vermillion or not, her heart beats with the rhythm of authenticity and sincerity. In the quiet moments of introspection, she discovers the courage to embrace her own path, to wear her cultural heritage not as an obligation but as a heartfelt expression of her identity. For her, each choice, each gesture, resonates with the echoes of her deepest emotions, a testament to her unwavering spirit and unyielding determination to live life on her own terms.
